Maria Arena - Director

Born in Catania, Arena moves to Milan, where she obtains a degree in Philosophy and where she graduates from the Scuola Civica di Cinema. Her work includes short films, videos, video installations and theater productions. Her interest and research path, focused on image, often bring her to connect the video with other forms of expression. One of her most substantial achievements is her research work on the interaction between video installation and the performer's body and voice. This leads her to work collaborations with Emanuela Villagrossi, Emma Scialfa, Roberto Castello, Rosaria Lo Russo and Daniela Orlando. 

Arena has been teaching Digital Video since 2004 at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Catania, and since 2012 at the Scuola di Nuove Tecnologie dell'Arte di Brera. Her publications include: Falso movimento, laboratorio audiovisivo tra analogico e digitale, Bonanno Editore, Acireale (CT) 2011.
